Weather and
Avalanche Information

The Mountain Weather Information Service provides detailed weather forecasts for 8 areas of the United Kingdom.

Met Check offer some good mountain forecasts for across Scotland. They also have a good long range assessment for the UK weather in general.

The SAIS publish a daily avalanche forecasts for 5 climbing areas across Scotland during the winter season. For the SAIS this is 15th December - 15th April.

Climbing Walls

Extreme Dream the Aviemore Indoor Climbing Wall offers a hot tub, shop, viewing balcony, dry tooling area, lead and top roping areas, beginners and teaching area, bouldering area and training zone.

The Ice Factor in Kinlochleven has the world's biggest indoor ice wall and the UK's highest articulated climbing wall.

Representative Bodies
and Clubs

The Association of Mountaineering Instructors is the representative body for professionally qualified Mountaineering Instructors in the British Isles.

The BMC is the representative body that exists to protect the freedoms and promote the interests of climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers, including ski-mountaineers.

The Mountaineering Council of Scotland is the representative body for climbers, walkers, mountaineers and cross-country skiers who enjoy the Scottish mountains.

The Scottish Mountaineering Club utilises the wide experience of its members, and other mountaineers, in order to support an active publishing program covering the hills and mountains of Scotland – widely recognised as the best and most extensive series of guidebooks for walkers and climbers.

Macpherson Mountaineering is a traditional mountaineering shop situated in Inverness. It was established 35 years ago and is run by a Dennis and Pete Macpherson. They offer friendly, sound advice on walking, climbing and mountaineering. They are also keen mountaineers themselves.

Books and Guidebooks

Cicerone Press publishes guidebooks for long distance walks and treks, day walks, family walks, scrambling, climbing, ice climbing and mountaineering. They provide the information needed to enable you to plan and enjoy your favourite outdoor activity, whether in the British Isles or overseas.

Other instructors and guides websites

The Mountain Instructors Community is a collaboration of independent climbing instructors who provide climbing and mountain skills training throughout the UK. Membership is open to any instructor who has gained the 'Mountaineering Instructor Certificate' and who also has breadth to their personal climbing and instructional experience.
