Very sunny and very windy on Ben Nevis

Over the last 2 days I have been out with Kath and Steve on Ben Nevis. Yesterday we did Castle Ridge and continued over Ben Nevis summit and around the Carn Mor Dearg Arete to Carn Mor Dearg.

Today we opted for a shorter day and climbed Ledge Route which still has a large patch of snow to cross at the bottom in Number 5 Gully. It was sunny but very windy. The strong cold Easterly meant that we wore hats and gloves along with plenty of suncream!

Conditions Map Page

I have added a new page to my website. It is a conditions map page. Basically it is an embedded Google map with the source data coming from my RSS Feed which now has geo data included in the form of a lat and long for each news entry.

This means that you can see where I have been out on the hill recently and in winter you can see where the conditions are good. I hope this is a useful page and any feedback is gratefully received.

Warm and sunny at Ardmair

Mike and I had a great day climbing at Ardmair. This excellent sandstone crag is just north of Ullapool.

The air temperature was perfect and with no midges and sunshine this really is a great time in Scotland for going cragging.

Goat Crag in the sunshine

Although the day started cold and cloudy it soon warmed up and it was great climbing up at Goat Crag above Gruinard Bay.

Good effort to Stevie Addison who managed to flash Mactalla, the 3 star 7a+.

Great fun at the Tollaidh Climbers Triathlon

On Saturday we had a great time at the Tollaidh Climbers Triathlon. The weather was cool and dry for this fun annual event.

The Triathlon takes place in the hills east of Gairloch in Wester Ross. Competitors have to run 8km on a rough track over the hill to Slattadale where a 20km bike section takes folk to the crag at Creag nan Luch where a route is climbed in a time limit.

The winner this year was David Wilby. The race is organised by Paul of Go Further Scotland

Very changeable Spring weather

At the weekend I was out climbing with Rich and it was almost too hot to climb!

2 days later there is snow on the hills and today I was out with Deziree and we were lucky to climb in between the showers. It was also very cold and we were glad to have a big belay jacket.
