Hot and Sunny on the Old Man of Stoer
Today I climbed the Old Man with my old man. It was a beautiful hot sunny day on the west coast.
Climbing a sea stack has been one of my Dad's ambitions and today was the perfect day to do it. We had the stack to ourselves and only saw a few walkers along the cliffs too.
The heavy rain last night made the cliff top walk very wet but the stack was completely dry. This sandstone sea stack should be on every climbers tick list. What a fantastic day out it is. |

Summer Rock climbing
Over the weekend I was out climbing with Daniela and Stewart. They had done a little bit of climbing in France before but had never experienced what Scotland had to offer.
Their Dad booked them on a weekend of climbing based at Glenmore Lodge and we went to Cummingston on the Saturday and Kingussie Crag on the sunday.
We had sunshine both days and although there were a few showers in the mountains it was dry where we were. |

Sea cliff climbing in Caithness
Today I was out with Rich climbing on the sea cliffs of Mid Clyth. This sandstone sea cliff is situated between Sarclet and Occumster not far south of Wick.
After the very wet weather of the last few weeks there was quite a lot of seepage but there were still dry routes to climb. (PS the Inset wall IS tidal even though the SMC guide says it's not!) |

Silver Rock Topo
Thanks to Simon Nadin for an up-to-date Silver Rock topo. This is now available to download from my Downloads page.
Silver Rock is a conglomerate sport crag near Golspie about 1 hour's drive north of Inverness. The routes are generally shorter and more powerful than the routes at Moy or the Camel so a good place to visit for a change of scene if you are keen on your sport climbing. |
