A good start to the winter

This last week there have been multiple winter storms passing across the UK. Coupled with a few days of thaws this will have helped to build the ice in the mountains.

I was out last weekend working for the MC of S running some winter skills. We were lucky enough to get a decent day on the Saturday up in the Cairngorms.

Avalanche Forecasts

Today, the first avalanche forecast of the winter season is available. It's 'Considerable' in the Northern Cairngorms. Make sure you are Avalanche Aware

Don't forget to check the Avalanche Forecast whenever you are planning a trip into the mountains. The website has been updated. It's more user friendly and contains more info.

Three days training at Glenmore Lodge

The last 3 days I have spent getting involved with the Glenmore Lodge staff training. With some very wild weather we have spent much of the time indoors or around the grounds.

Today it was great to get out and up into the hills, albeit the low hills. We ran through a mountain rescue scenario which involved evacuating a casualty from Meall a Bhuachaille. It was snowing above 200m for most of the day.
