Spindrift, Spindrift and more spindrift
Ben wanted some wild conditions for his RAB shoot. We certainly got them these last few days on the Ben. We climbed the Carn Dearg Cascades (aka The Organ Pipes) in awful (vertical slush) conditions on Monday, Waterfall Gully gave Tamsin some "very bad" times with continual spindrift avalanches, Ben was very pleased! Wednesday the models had an easier time with some low level shots in the snow and Alan's excellent drying room. Yesterday, on the final day after a big overnight thaw we ended up on Abacus which gave me some excellent suffering with heavy graupel spindrift avalanches; perfect! |

Winter continues
After the big thaw on Wednesday things are a lot thinner in both the NW and the East. However in the Cairngorms today it was cold and the snow was falling again as I was out doing some winter skills with Teesdale and Weardale Mountain Rescue Team. Most of last week I was in the North West climbing on Fuar Tholl (Access Gully), Beinn Bhan (A'Chioch), The Saddle (Forcan Ridge) and Liathach (George) with Matt, Becky and Paul |

A week in the west
I have been on the west coast for the last week. The highlights were a traverse of Liathach, an ascent of Forcan Ridge, a day on Beinn Eighe and today on the Ben. For most of the week the NW was wet and cloudy and not cold so everything was thawing rapidly. The last 2 days it's been dry in the NW but it's very spring-like on the hills. |

The last of 3 great days out with Dave and Don
Today started calm and clear. We headed into climb Original Summer Route in Coire an T-Sneachda. As expected it was a busy day in the coire. As we climbed the forecasted Northerly wind picked up and by early afternoon the cloud level had dropped to cover the tops of the hills. Dave and Don led the last few pitches of easier climbing up the ridge and into Aladdins Couloir. |

Sunshine and Ice
What an amazing day of warm sunshine and no wind. We climbed Central Gully on Lurchers Crag in the sunshine. It was very warm in the sun. We walked in up Lurchers Gully and down South Gully which at the moment is very friendly for descending. The route had some excellent ice pitches on it. Dave and Don led the top few pitches. |

In the cloudy Cairngorms
Today I was in the Northern Corries with Don and Dave. There was very low visibility on the way in but we eventually found what we wanted and climbed Hidden Chimney Direct. Mild conditions and light northerly winds today. We were very lucky and the cloud cleared for a time to give us some great views into Sneachda and over the back. |
