A stunning weekend on the hill

The last 2 days I was out on the hill with the Edinburgh University Hillwalking Club teaching some winter skills to beginners and also spending time with their 'Walk Leaders' teaching the important skills to lead a walk in the Scottish winter hills.

A cold wintry weekend in the Ben Lawers National Nature Reserve

This weekend we finally had some settled weather and fresh snow down to 100m. I was out working with members of the University of Stirling Mountaineering Club. On Saturday we climbed Meall nan Tarmachan and on Sunday we climbed Beinn Ghlas. Both days I had beginners who were learning about the basic skills needed in winter in the Scottish hills.

Another windy and snowy weekend in Glencoe

Not quite as cold as last weekend but with the freezing level between 500m and 900m there was plenty of new snow up high and plenty of rain low down. I was working with Strathclyde University Mountaineering Club teaching some winter walking and mountaineering skills.

A wild, windy and snowy weekend in the west

I was out over the weekend in Glen Etive and Glencoe with St Andrews University Mountaineering Club teaching some winter walking and mountaineering skills. The Saturday was extremely windy with gusts knocking us all over on the hill even at 500m up Lairig Eilde. Sunday was a much less windy day although there was a fair bit of wading in all the fresh snow.
