Dundonnell Hills this weekend
This weekend I was out working with St Andrews Uni Mountaineering Club. I was teaching winter skills but the weather meant that we couldn't get too high due to the winds so we didn't find too much snow. We managed to find some on Saturday for kicking steps and ice axe arrest but Sunday we had a navigation day and climbed Sail Mhor. There are more photos here: Some Facebook photos. I was working as the St John Scotland Mountain Safety Instructor this weekend. |

Cairngorms with Edinburgh Uni Mountaineering Club
I was out this weekend working with Edinburgh Uni Mountaineering Club. They were based in Kingussie so I headed into the northern Cairngorms with six students each day teaching winter skills. Saturday was the better day with light Westerly winds and some decent visibility to start so we climbed Cairngorm via Coire Cas and some winter skills teaching. Sunday was wild and windy from the south east so we found some shelter in Coire an T-Sneachda and learnt some cramponing, ice axe arrest and built some emergency shelters. There are more photos here: Some Facebook photos. I was working as the St John Scotland Mountain Safety Instructor this weekend. |

North west Highlands with Lairig Club
The Aberdeen University Lairig Club had their meet in the little village of Aultbea at the Ladies Scottish Climbing Club hut. On Saturday we climbed Sail Mhor next to An Teallach and had some great views into the Fisherfield Forest. On Sunday we headed up into Coir' a' Mhuillinn to the north of Glas Mheall Mor and found some good snow for doing some winter skills. There are more photos here: Some Facebook photos |

West Coast Mixed Climbing
I was out with Gareth the last 2 days. We climbed Right End Buttress on Fuar Tholl on Saturday. There was some deep unhelpful snow with a breakable crust low down on the buttress. Higher up the snow had been blown clear by the Easterly winds and there was some good frozen turf exposed. On Sunday we went further west and climbed A'Chioch ridge on Beinn Bhan. There was very little snow below 500m but lots of snow above that. We had great weather both days with the high pressure in charge. There are more photos here: Some Facebook photos |
