Two great days on Skye

I was working on Skye the last 2 days. On Friday I was with Robin who had his last 2 Munros on the Isle of Skye to do. We had a lovely day in the sunshine climbing Sgurr Alasdair and Sgurr Mhic Choinnich.

Then on Friday evening I met Mark who was keen to attempt a 1 day Skye Ridge traverse. We started Saturday morning at sunrise and had a really fantastic day on the ridge. It wasn't too busy even though it was the weekend with a good forecast. We kept pace with a team of brothers from Edinburgh who were good company.

The cool northerly breeze meant that we were never too hot and had no problem staying hydrated. We completed the ridge in very good time and made it down to the Sligachan in time for a beer and a meal to top off a great day on the hill.

Over the sea to Skye

For the last 4 days I was climbing on Skye with Bruce. We had mixed weather and most days the cloud and mist covered the Black Cullin.

On Friday we headed into Marsco to climb Odell's Route. I was surprised to find such pleasant golden granite to climb on. I would recommend seeking out the final V.Diff corner to the left of the scrambles guide described route line. On Saturday we braved the cloud and mist to climb Foxes' Rake on sgurr A' Mhadaidh. It's an "interesting" route with all the hard climbing on hard to protect wet slabs; "very interesting"!

Sunday we decided to head to the coast to avoid the worst of the weather. Unfortunately it still managed to get us there with some very wet drizzly showers. We did however manage to climb Return of the Stone on Staffin Slip North in between showers. This Severe climb certainly has enough spectacular exposure to warrant VS for that reason alone! Adventure was definitely the name of the game. Finally yesterday we ended with a lovely day of climbing at Suidhe Biorach near Elgol.

Western Isles climbing trip

Just back from an awesome trip rock climbing on Pabbay and Mingulay in the Western Isles. We had mixed weather through the week but still had 4 fantastic sunny days of climbing.

The highlights were probably Endolphin Rush on Banded Wall on Pabbay, Voyage of Faith on Dun Mingulay and some very tasty Pollock courtesy of 'fisherman' Tim. I have uploaded a few photos to an album on my Facebook page.
