Sunny rock climbing in the north west highlands
Today Mike and I headed to Stac Pollaidh to climb on the South Face. Here there are several different buttresses and many great climbs from Diff to E6.
We climbed Jack the Ripper and Vlad the Impaler. Although it was warm in the sun and out of the wind, it was cold in the strong westerly breeze. A beautiful day though for March and incredibly dry. There was even a heath fire near the Aultguish Inn which the fire service were fighting as we passed. |

Cold but sunny rock climbing in the Cairngorms
Willie and I were out rock climbing in the Cairngorms the last 2 days. Yesterday we did Fingers Ridge and Pigmy Ridge. Although it was cold and windy we enjoyed some excellent dry rock climbing.
Today was even better because we decided on the south facing Stag Rocks and with a north westerly breeze they were sheltered too. We climbed Afterthought Arete and then Final Selection and had both routes to ourselves. It was warm in the sun and out of the wind. |

Warm and spring like in the Northern Corries
With a forecast for rain in the west we headed east today. Ian and I climbed in Coire an T-sneachda where we climbed Pygmy Ridge and Fingers Ridge.
We had sunshine and warm weather most of the day with a little cloud and a fresh breeze. It was a very pleasant end to a great few days of climbing with Ian. |

North East Buttress in the cloud
Ian and I climbed another classic Ben Nevis Ridge today. We were out on North East Buttress which had a few patchs of snow to negotiate but nothing that needed crampons. There was a tiny amount of rime near the top.
Yesterday we had a good day climbing North Buttress on Buchaille Etive Mor in Glencoe. There were quite a few parties out climbing Curved Ridge but no one was climbing any snow! |

Climbing Tower Ridge into the sunshine
Today I was out with Ian on Tower Ridge. We started in the cloud and drizzle but soon climbed into the top of the cloud where it was a lot drier and finally into the sunshine on the top of Ben Nevis.
There were a few other teams out and some were on Good Friday Climb and Tower Scoop. |

A return to winter in the north west highlands
Over the last week I have been working in the North West Highlands for Martin. On Sunday I was up on Beinn Eighe with a group of friends from NW England. We had great weather and fresh snow under foot. On Monday we had another beautiful day on the Forcan Ridge on the Saddle in Glen Sheil.
The latter days in the week were not so pleasant but we practiced navigation on Tuesday, climbed the 2 Munros Ben Liath Mor and Sgurr Ruadh on Wednesday and did some ropework skills on Fuar Tholl yesterday. |
