Skye Cuillin Munros
Yesterday I was out in the Black Cuillin on Skye. Katy, Colin, Roland and Ben wanted to do the Inaccessible Pinnacle on Sgurr Dearg. We managed to beat the crowds to it on this busy bank holiday weekend and climbed it in an atmospheric mist.
The team were keen for some more action and as 2 of the team were after another Munro tick we headed over to Sgurr Mhic Choinnich which we climbed also in the cloud. On our descent the cloud lifted to give a beautiful sunny evening in Glen Brittle. |

Rock climbing at Kingussie
I was out climbing with Mari, Simo and Matti today. We went to Kingussie crag where they wanted a refresher and confirmation that they were doing things right.
They certainly knew what to do and made short work of leading several routes in fine style. We looked at climbing with 2 ropes and abseiling as well. It was a cold day in the northerly breeze but we didn't get rained on. I was working for Liam today |

Spring time bouldering and rock climbing
Today I finally completed 'The Link' at the Tom Riach boulder. Since last summer when I first traversed the SW face I wondered whether I'd ever be able to link it into the NW face. After far too much time spent sitting in this field of tree stumps, today was the day. Glad it's done, now I can go and do some proper climbing!
At the weekend I was over in Glenshee camping with the family. Andy and I managed to escape for a quick climb at Kirrie Hill before the rain arrived on saturday afternoon. Kirrie Hill is a small bolted sandstone quarry near Kirriemuir in Angus which provides a good selection of easy to moderate grades. |

Fisherfield Expedition
The last 2 days I was on expedition with Andrew and Steve into the Fisherfield Forest. We had a great 2 days out in the true Scottish 'Great Wilderness'. We climbed 5 munros in the Fisherfield Forest and camped between Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair and Beinn Tarsuinn.
We saw very few other folk out walking. Although most of the time the cloudbase hovered between 700m and 900m we were rewarded with stunning views from Ruadh Stac Mor. |

Avoiding the showers on Stac Pollaidh
Today I was out on Stac Pollaidh with Andrew and Steve. We started late to avoid the worst of the weather and the gamble paid off. We had a beautiful afternoon on the hill with no rain and plenty of sunshine.
With virtually no wind it was warm in the sun. We also had the unusual sight of a sea plane hopping between Loch Lurgainn and Loch Bad a'Ghaill to the south of Stac Pollaidh. There is a short video on my you tube page. |

Two great days of classic Scottish rock climbing
On Friday I met up with Steve and Kath and we decided to head to Glencoe to go climbing. After deciding Rannoch Wall might be a bit cold in the Easterly breeze we headed to the lower and slightly more sheltered location of the Etive Slabs. We had a fantastic day climbing Spartan Slab. There was one other team on Swastika.
Yesterday we headed East as a band of rain was due to arrive from the West during the afternoon. We climbed Ardverikie Wall on Binnein Shuas which was superb. We had warm sun throughout the day and the crag was relatively busy with 3 other teams climbing. We also climbed Kubla Khan which I would give the second pitch 3 stars in it's own right. What an awesome pitch. Our plan for the forecast worked perfectly and we got back to the car just as the rain came on. |
