Winter Courses 2010

As the clocks go back and it feels more like winter, now is the time to start thinking about booking your winter course for early 2010.

The cost of instruction/guiding is going up slightly for next year but if you book before December the 1st you can get your 2010 course at 2009 prices. See the Booking page for more info.

GPS Training

I was out again working on a GPS training course today. The weather was not as pleasant as yesterday. However with low cloud there was good opportunity to test our GPS skills. Rain and a westerly breeze gave us a taste of what to expect for the next week as a low pressure moves in from the Atlantic.

While at Glenmore Lodge I met the Scottish Adventure Race team, Team Cruachan who were training for the next World Championship adventure race to be held in Portugal next month.

A beautiful autumnal day

Today I was working on a 'Learn to use your GPS' course. There was a good turn out for the day of GPS tuition being held at Glenmore Lodge. The course was organised by The Mountaineering Council of Scotland.

The weather was fantastic for our GPS assisted ascent of Meal a Buchaille. We had great views and warm sun for sitting and learning more about how to use a GPS.

Snow in the Cairngorms

This morning Danny and I went for a stroll into the Northern Corries. The snow that fell a couple of nights ago made the corries feel wintery.

Today the temperature was well above freezing and you could see and hear the snow and ice melting and dropping off the buttresses.

First snows of the winter

This morning I woke to see snow on Ben Wyvis. Amy, Lynda and Liz were over in the hills between Stath Carron and Glen Torridon.

Their walk into the Coire Fionnaraich bothy north of Strath Carron was wet and wild on Saturday afternoon but they enjoyed blue skies and sunshine today as they climbed Maol Chean-Dearg. From the summit they had great views of the Torridon hills and Snow on the fannichs.
