Lost and Found

Last week I was out on a hill east of the A9 near Dalwhinnie. The munro is called Meall Chuaich and near the summit I found an SD Card. After drying it out I discovered over 400 photos on the card. I think the camera belonged to the girl pictured below who I think is with her dad in the photo. Get in touch if you want your card back.

In a similar vein I thought I would put out a call to the climber who appeared in a photo I took which is now in the new Skye Scrambles guidebook. Someone recently got in touch thinking it might be them but it wasn't. If it is you (see the photo below left) then do get in touch.

More Munros on Skye

Lorna, Ross, Kathleen and I headed up on to Sgurr a Mhadaidh and Sgurr a Ghreadaidh today. We climbed up via An Dorus where we enjoyed a wee bit of roped scrambling.

It was windy and cold for most of the day but later in the day the tops cleared as the cloud lifted

High pressure over Skye

Today I was out on Skye with Lorna, Kathleen and Ross. We headed to the most southerly munros on Skye, Sgurr Nan Eag and Sgurr Dubh Mor. There were quite a few other folk out enjoying the sunshine.

It started very sunny with blue skies but soon a band of cloud encroached from the west. With the sun behind the cloud it soon felt cold as the breeze picked up a little.

The Heathery place

I had the morning off today so I went for a quick run up a wee hill I hadn't been up before. This hill north of Loch Glascarnoch could have some good views west towards Beinn Dearg if it was clear.

The name Am Faochagach means heathery place but boggy place might be a better name as the lower part of the hill is a tad wet. There were a few showers coming through on a northerly breeze and these were falling as snow above about 900m. It was 2°C at 900m.

Esoteric Gems on Skye

Today we went for a bit of an explore over onto the Loch Coruisk side of the ridge. It's great to drop into a coire and know that you'll be a rare visitor. We climbed over from Coire na Banachdich into Coireachan Ruadha and dropped down to do Peridotite Buttress.

This excellent grade 3 scramble climbs some splendidly rough Peridotite up Sron Bhuidhe. The only disappointment is how quickly it's all over. Although it was a couple of degrees warmer and a little less windy than yesterday we still had a couple of blustery snow showers.

Wintery on Skye today

I was on Skye today with Steve and Kath. We had somne wild winds and hail showers and it was 3 degrees on the tops, more like a winters day.

Steve and Kath were keen as ever so we did Window Buttress on to Sgurr Dearg and then traversed the South Ridge of Banachdich and on to that summit before returning to the relative calm of Glen Brittle.

Super Crag - updated Topo

Ian has just updated the 'Super Crag' topo. He mentioned that "I've had Dave Birkett on the phone this week, foaming at the mouth about how it's the best mainland cliff in Britain" ... praise indeed!

You can find the updated mini guide here: Super Crag Topo
