Ben Nevis via the North Face
Yesterday I was working on Ben Nevis. I took a team of four from Blackpool area to the summit. Fortunately for me they wanted something a bit more adventurous than the usual route up the west face. So we headed around from Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe on to the north face and after a cuppa in the warm and cozy CIC hut (thanks to Dundee Mountain Club) we traversed below the north face and up Coire Leis to the top.
On our way past Observatory Gully I took some photos of the 2 remaining snow patches for Blair (the doctor of snow) and any other 'snow geeks' out there! We were lucky with the weather and although views were limited we made it off the hill before the rain set in. |

Scrambling in the north west Highlands
Today I was out with David in Torridon. We traversed Liathach from west to east. The weather was better than expected and we had some good views down to valley level and all the way to Slioch.
There was nobody else out on the mountain so we had the place to ourselves. |

Working in Aberdeenshire
Yesterday I was working at Pass of Ballater. I was working with Ramon who was keen to look at rope work; setting up anchors, descending and ascending a fixed line for his job as a geologist. We climbed the long traversing route of Giant Flake Route to kick off and then concentrated on all the rope work he would need for the rest of the day. We had some lovely dry sunny weather almost all day.
Today it was not quite so lovely with gales and torrential rain across much of Scotland. On friday (2 days ago) Dunc and I went in search of dry rock in the west and finally found it at Am Fasgadh after visiting the Stone Valley Sports crag and Goat Crag which were both dripping with water. Am Fasgadh has some good hard sports routes which are almost 'perma-dry'. We got on the 7b 'Warm Up' and got a good work out. |

Back in the highlands
After a great holiday on the continent cycling part of the Danube with the family from Germany to Vienna in Austria I headed home to find that summer was still going strong in the highlands.
During the last week I've managed to get out to a couple of my local sport and bouldering venues and really enjoyed getting back on the rock after 3 weeks off. |
