Climbing Courses

Scotland has an enormous amount of rock from the igneous quarries of the Southern lowlands, through the gneiss, granite and schist mountain crags of the central highlands to the sandstone sea cliffs of the far North. This really is a massive climber's playground.

Climbing Outside

If you have only climbed inside and want to get a taste of 'real' climbing, then we can take you on your first traditional rock climb, teach you to place gear and help you to understand setting up anchors.

Check out what past clients have to say about Alpha Mountaineering on our Client Testimonials page.

Classic Climbs of the Highlands

You may have climbed elsewhere in the UK but been a bit intimidated by the big mountain routes Scotland has to offer. If this is the case then Alpha Mountaineering can take you on an adventure of a life time. We can base ourselves in Fort William and explore the mountains of Glencoe and Lochaber.

Alternatively come to Skye where we will enjoy the rough gabbro routes of the Black Cuillin. Maybe you want something a little more adventurous? Booking a course in Ullapool will give us access to the mountains of the far North West of Scotland. If you haven't climbed in the East you can try our Aviemore based course where we will spend much of our time in the granite corries of the Cairngorms.

Scottish Sea Stacks

Ever since Tom Patey climbed the Old Man of Hoy in 1966 Scotland has been famous for its spectacular sea stacks. Climbing on these isolated pillars of rock is a unique challenge involving a good knowledge of tides and complex rope work.

At Alpha Mountaineering we offer you the opportunity to have a go at one or more of these fabulous climbs. During May and June we run a mobile course starting from Inverness. Being mobile gives us the best chance of good weather and tides to achieve the most climbing.

Contact us if you are interested in any rock climbing courses and we can chat more about the best way to achieve your goals.
