Winter Climbing Courses
Scotland in winter has some fantastic winter climbs from the far North West Highlands to the Cairngorms in the East, to Glencoe in the South West. If you've got some basic winter climbing experience or have done one of our
introductory winter climbing courses then this is the course for you. Maybe you want to swing your axes at some vertical ice, torque your way up a winter mixed route or have a great day out on a much sort after classic line.
As a Scottish Winter Climber you will want to challenge yourself more. With the guidance of an Alpha Mountaineering Instructor you can get that experience with the knowledge that you are with an experienced and qualified winter climbing instructor.

Course content
During a Winter Climbing Course we will look at the following skills:
- Appropriate route choice.
- Snow and ice condition assessment.
- Winter climbing skills on a variety of terrain.
- Constructing and using belays.
- Stance management.
- Rope management when ascending and descending.
- Climbing routes from grade II to V
Programmes are dependent upon weather and conditions.

Winter Climbing Programme Options
We can create a course to suit the time you have available. You can book a 2 or 3 day winter climbing course over a weekend or during the week. If you want to become more proficient and consolidate your skills then book 4 or 5 days.
If you are a winter walker with no winter climbing experience we could give you a 2 day introduction to winter climbing course
followed by a 3 day winter climbing course.
